Zahira Flores

Attorney

As a recognized attorney in both Belize and New York, Ms. Flores is one of the few in Belize qualified to deal with the legal and investment needs of locals and expats. Her experience abroad was primarily geared towards advising public and private enterprises on corporate matters and cross-border transactions. She has counseled clients on issues of corporate governance, corporate financing, and has been involved in certain aspects of merger and acquisition transactions. Ms. Flores has also assisted institutional and non-institutional clients in real estate acquisitions and dispositions and in the creation of investment vehicles for property development and ownership. She has represented clients from a range of industries including agriculture, banking, private equity, healthcare and tourism.

Ms. Flores dedicates a substantial amount of her time to pro-bono work and not-for-profit engagements in southern Belize. While pursuing her legal degree, she was an integral part of the Bluhm Legal Clinic in Chicago where she spent many years working on international human rights issues. During that time, Ms. Flores represented clients in Africa, Asia and Latin America on issues of social justice and promoted the economic and civil rights of indigent minorities. Ms. Flores has inclusively prepared reports for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

She is currently the only certified maritime lawyer in Belize and serves as legal consultant and country representative to ELAW, one of the world’s largest environmental not-for-profit organizations.

Prior to opening her practice, Ms. Flores worked as an associate under Supreme Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Court, the Hon. Justice Godfrey Smith, and as a Global Risk Analyst at the World Trade Center.

She is fluent in English and Spanish with knowledge of conversational French.
